Bees and Beekeepers are an integral part of the multi-billion dollar agriculture industry in the United States and around the world. There is a disorder which is currently plaguing them. To make matters worse the actual cause of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), a term coined in 2006, is still a mystery still being investigated to this day.
To avoid a sensationalistic “Chicken Little” approach to documenting a potentially large crisis, other than a brief introduction, we used interviews with professionals in the field to structure and narrate the documentary. We focused on information rather than spin and hype to educate and inspire the audience.
The problem was first identified in Pennsylvania by beekeeper Dave Hackenburg so we saw it fitting that Pennsylvania Apiarists, both State and Local, tell the story. The half hour documentary consists of interviews with Dennis vanEngelsdorp Pennsylvania State Apiarist, Jim Bobb President of PA State Beekeepers Association, Bill Mondjack Mondjack Apiaries, and Mike Andre a Research Technician who performs autopsies on Bees with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
